More spaces being changed to small car on Salerie

Saturday 01 September 2018

Due to what the States are calling "the continued popularity of the existing small car parking scheme", 16 parking spaces on the Salerie Corner are being changed into 19 small car spaces.

The small space scheme was first launched in 2006, with the creation of the Crown Pier's dedicated small car parking arm.

Now, Environment & Infrastructure are furthering the Transport Strategy Initiative, which aims to encourage the use of smaller more efficient cars, as it proposes to create the additional spaces in two separate areas at the Salerie car park.

Overall, the scheme now provides around 150 long-term (five and 10 hour) small car parking in St Peter Port, and the additional spaces at Salerie are to be located in the 55m long section adjacent to the eastern wall of Salerie car park and in the 31m long section to the south of “The Hump” - both will be based on parallel parking spaces.

Subject to final markings, E&I said it is estimated that the number of car parking spaces would increase from approximately 10 to 12 along the eastern wall and from six to seven in the area south of The Hump, an overall increase of three parking spaces.

The States are now accepting any comments on the proposal, which can be sent to Traffic & Highway Services at traffic@gov.gg.
