Ofsted has undertaken a monitoring inspection following a critical report it published on Les Voies school in 2022.
The Office for Standards in Education, Children Services and Skills (Ofsted) said the school has “responded positively” to the findings of the previous report and is making progress to improve several key indicators.
In 2022 Ofsted rated Les Voies as “inadequate” in three categories and its these categories it has revisited and found progress in.
Leaders in the school are making progress to improve; quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, and leadership and management.
“You have utilised the support from the Education Office to waste no time in appointing a new assistant headteacher, SENDCo and behaviour and attendance leader,” said Matthew Barnes from Osted in a letter to the Head of Les Voies, Jon Furley.
“This has significantly increased the school’s capacity to improve provision. You have quickly developed and implemented an improvement plan focused on systematically tackling the areas judged ineffective at the previous inspection.
“The responsibilities for school improvement are clearly delineated within the leadership team. This has allowed leaders to focus their work to create the foundations for effective provision. As a result, the quality of education and behaviour and attitudes at the school are already better and continuing to improve.”
Mr Barnes said the school’s vision for providing high-quality education is “compelling” and that changes implemented since the last report have led to various improvements in the school.
“Reading has been rightly prioritised,” he continued. “You have introduced a systematic approach to teaching pupils to read. The improved expectations at the school are reflected in your desire to ensure this work helps pupils to develop a love of reading also. You recognise that the things you have done to help pupils appreciate books and learn to love stories is not as impactful as you would like.”
“You have correctly identified that this is something to review and amend moving forwards.”

In response to the monitoring report Mr Furley said: “Following the recent monitoring report I want to recognise the continued hard work of the staff and the commitment to the students and their families.
“I am pleased that the extensive development of the curriculum has been recognised, along with our shared vision of trying to ensure our students get a high quality education. I also want to thank the parents for their unwavering support and the students for trying to better themselves every day.”
The President of Education, Sport and Culture, Deputy Andrea Dudley-Owen, said everyone involved in implementing changes should be proud of themselves.
“I know Jon and the whole Les Voies community were disappointed by their formal inspection report last year, but the response has been excellent.”
