Mixed messages about disabled access to Puffin & Oyster pub

Friday 17 June 2022

Liberation Group told Express that disabled persons will have access to the Puffin & Oyster pub site, but a comment from the pubs own Facebook account says it will not be wheelchair accessible.

The company said that full planning permission was granted by the Development & Planning Authority, which included the approval of an access statement.

But a reply from the pub to a question about wheelchair accessibility on Facebook said: “We will not be wheelchair accessible, as we have kept the original entryway at the front of the pub, which has steps."

However, the planning application for the site states: “Erect raised decking area with ramped access."

The pub, which is located at the site of the former Houmet Tavern, is due to open next week following refurbishment.

Liberation Group maintain that they have followed the instructions of the building regulations in line with their approved application.
