"Minor injuries" after gas canister explodes in vehicle

Thursday 27 May 2021

One person was taken to hospital after a one-litre gas cylinder exploded in a vehicle.

The Guernsey Fire & Rescue Service, Guernsey Police and St John Ambulance were called to Les Pages, St Martin's at 11:30 this morning following reports of an explosion.

Emergency services say the incident was caused by a one-litre canister that had caught fire and exploded, causing "minor damage" to the vehicle and "minor injuries" to the casualty.

A spokesman for St John Ambulance confirmed that a double-crewed ambulance had attended the scene and that paramedics had treated the patient, before sending them to the hospital for further treatment.

The scene was made safe and the road was re-opened around one-hour-and-a-quarter later.
