Specialists in Guernsey will be able to prescribe herbal cannabis for medicinal use as part of a law update which has been approved by the States.
Although the drug is only likely to be prescribed in a very small number of cases, the Committee for Health and Social care believes this is a significant step in modernising the island's cannabis laws.
The drug will be produced in specialist facilities and can be prescribed by a consultant if they think it is appropriate for their patient.

"We're pleased to see this change in law come into effect," said HSC President Deputy Heidi Soulsby. "It builds on the changes already made by the Committee for Health and Social Care with regard to other cannabis-based products, such as CBD products, which was something many in our community had campaigned for and has led to an emerging new industry locally."
