Market Development still needs stall holders

Wednesday 16 January 2019

A meeting is planned for tonight to update potential tenants on the work at the Inner Street of the market building, with opportunities still available for retailers to take on one of the traditional market stalls.

Work is said to be progressing at a good pace but the owners are still looking for more people to get involved.

Changes have been made to the Inner Street with a new mezzanine floor planned to incorporate a gallery area for art and commercial exhibitions. Beneath that will be eight market stalls, while completing the project in the other half of the Inner Street will be a licensed bar and cafe and seating.

Bailiwick Estates, which manages the Market for MCAulay Ltd, wants to see a vibrant all-weather market operating six days a week - all year round - with a variety of cultural and commercial events taking place at different times, providing an enjoyable mix of retail, social and cultural experiences.

The commercial success of the Inner Street Market will depend on the commitment of the traders to create quality businesses that are sustainable six days a week says Sonia Taylor of Bailiwick Estates - "with support from the public of course".

Potential stakeholders and interested members of the public who were unable to attend last month’s presentation are invited to a second presentation which takes place this evening, at 18:00 in the Inner Street.

Besides a walk through video of the Inner Street plans as they are envisaged at completion, people will be able to see the development work in progress. Posters and information will be on hand.

Closing date for stall applications is 31 January.
