Many expected to pay respects to Francis Quin

Wednesday 13 March 2019

The funeral of popular Guernseyman Francis Quin is expected to be so well attended today, that extra parking has been arranged to enable those who want to, to pay their respects.

The "true gentleman" will be laid to rest after a ceremony at St Martin's Parish Church this lunchtime.

He died earlier this month, with many people paying tribute to the man they remembered as being charming, funny or simply as "a great guy".

With so many people expected to want to pay their respects to him at 13:00, the States body, Traffic and Highways Services, took the unusual step of issuing parking advice for those attending

THS said it has highlighted the main parking areas within a five minute walk of St Martin's Church, which includes the Public Car Park at Grande Rue, the St Martin's Community Centre, and possibly in the field near the Community Centre if the land isn't too wet.

Shields Rutland have also given permission for those attending the service to park in the gravel car park at the very rear of the M&S car park at Les Merriennes, but drivers are reminded that the main car park area has to be left available for people visiting the various businesses in the area.

THS said it would "encourage people to car share where possible and to consider using the scheduled bus services."

Mr Quin played an active part in many different areas of island life, from competing sportsman, to committed supporter to politician.

As politician, the former Deputy made his mark across the community, most notably within law enforcement and in his support of island events such as Liberation Day.

As Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Mr Quin had worked closely with Bailiwick Law Enforcement over the years. Deputy Chief Officer Nigel Taylor said his "overriding memory is of his ceaseless smile, tireless community spirit and ever present positive outlook."
