Alderney Electricity needs to recruit a new Managing Director after James Lancaster announced his resignation following more than a decade in the post.
During his 10 year stint, Mr Lancaster has been involved in major upgrades to the island's distribution grid, rebuilding the power station, and he took on the modernisation of the island's power systems, in preparation for Alderney using more renewable energy.
His decision was announced at the limited company’s Annual General Meeting.
In a statement, Mr Lancaster said: “The AEL team have transformed the fortunes of the Company over the last decade.
"I am enormously proud of them and what we have achieved. We have uprated all our systems providing better service for the Alderney Community and delivering a safe, modern and stable electricity network. We are embarking on a journey to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and transitioning towards a truly sustainable energy future.
“We have laid the foundations, but the full journey may take decades. The Board and I agree that now is the time to hand over to the next generation.”
Mr Lancaster will continue his work until the end of the year on an interim basis until his successor is named, with a recruitment process planned shortly, although his commitment to the company will seemingly leave a lasting legacy.
AEL’s Chairman, Matt Birmingham, said of his outbound MD: “James has been a huge asset to the business over the last 10 years and both the Company and the island owe him a huge debt of gratitude for his work in improving the islands electrical infrastructure.
"He will be sorely missed."
