Man jailed for Harbour Carnival sexual assault

Guernsey Police have again reiterated their commitment to taking action against anyone accused of committing a sexual offence against another person.

On Friday, a 46-year-old man was jailed after committing a sexual assault against a woman who was at the Harbour Carnival earlier this year.

Michael O'Rahilly was visiting the island from his home in County Dublin, Ireland.

He filmed himself committing his assault on his female victim, who he did not know.

Other people in the crowd also witnessed his behaviour helping to convict him.

On Friday he was jailed for 18-months and was told he'll be subject to an extended sentence license for three years on his release, along with notification requirements for 10 years, which includes him having to notify police of his address, any off island trips and other details.

Guernsey Police said anyone who is a "victim of anything of a sexual nature that you did not want to happen to you" should call them directly on 222 222.

Or, the island's new independent Sexual Assault Referral Centre - Willow House - can be called on 227700.
