A member of the MADMAX Race Team has died in an accident during the opening race of the 2019 Isle of Man TT.
Zef Eisenberg posted on the team's social media accounts to confirm the news earlier this evening, saying: "It is with great sadness to report the crash and death of Daley Mathison in todays' Superbike race at the IOM TT 2019."
Mr Eisenberg said he and the MADMAX Race Team had been thrilled for Mr Mathison when he joined their team in their debut IOM TT sponsorship.
Speaking on behalf of their colleagues, Mr Eisenberg said he had spent time with Mr Mathison "laughing, going over tactics and chatting with the bike race teams. By far one of the most likeable, friendly and positive racers you'd ever meet."
The post concluded; "My heart and thoughts are with his wife, family, daughter and those who loved him."
A previous post on the MADMAX Facebook, announcing the team's TT sponsorship, said:
"I've (Zef Eisenberg) always admired the skills, braveness and MADness of the TT riders. So, it's time to put this passion into action. Welcome Team MADMAX rider, Daley Mathison, who is a fantastic top 20 seeded IOM TT rider."
The post continued by singing Mr Mathison's praises for his skills on two wheels.
The 27-year-old was from from Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham. He was married with one child.
The MADMAX race team is based in Guernsey where owner Zef Eisenberg lives.
