A 22-year-old Guernseyman has been found guilty of importing class A drugs into the island.
Caine Blondel was on trial for his involvement in a smuggling operation. He was arrested after a controlled parcel drop was made to his residence at 9, St John Street, by the Guernsey Border Agency and Guernsey Post.
He was found guilty by a margin of 7 to 2.
Blondel was importing the drugs in packages through the postal system under the name of one of his former roommates. This specific package of LSD was intercepted by Customs, and the decision was made to make a replica package and carry out a controlled drop.
The postman who made the controlled drop appeared as a live witness during the trial. He said he was approached by two men while doing his round, asking when he would be delivering to the address, then he had a third conversation with the defendant when delivering the package to the door of the property.
The prosecution alleged that the defendant had claimed to be the man whom the package was being shipped too, and signed for the package upon its delivery.
During the investigation, Blondel refused to provide Law Enforcement with the passcode to his mobile phone, which is an offence.
He will be sentenced on the 26 March for the drug importation charge, along with a number of other charges including possession of offensive weapons and cultivating a cannabis plant.
