Years of "outstanding" service recognised

Tuesday 25 May 2021

Long-serving Scout volunteers have been presented with special awards for years of commitment to the organisation.

The Lt-Governor Vice Admiral Sir Ian Corder presented the long-service awards at Government House.

Ian Torode from the 9th Scout Group was awarded the Bar to the Award for Merit for outstanding service to the association for over 30 years.

Mandy Langmead, Rosalyn Lesbirel, Philip Morley, Sue Le Billon, John Domaille, Davina Mansell, Jane King and Julie Le Page all received Awards for Merit for outstanding service of at least 10 years.

Chief Scout’s Commendation awards for more than five years went to Tyler Bourgaize, Toby Walters, Tracey De La Haye, Ben Moore, David Spicer, Alexis Mansell, Anita Batiste, Marie-Anne Jones, Mark Lancaster, Michael Waters and Daniel James.

"Our volunteers are intrinsic to our success, whether they help in the background once a month or on the frontline every week"

It is only thanks to its many volunteers that the Guernsey Scouts Association is able to host its plethora of activities for young people. Without them, Bailiwick Commissioner Andy Snell said this simply couldn’t happen.

“It is a real honour for our volunteers to receive such fantastic recognition for all their hard work and commitment, and I personally would like to thank them all.

"They organise wonderful activities, trips away and fun challenges for the children to develop skills for life. It is an excellent opportunity to pay tribute to their enthusiasm and the difference they make to the lives of children across the Bailiwick.

“All of our volunteers are intrinsic to the success of the organisation whether they help in the background once a month or on the frontline every week. We can find a role for anyone who wants to help young people. We always need more volunteers as demand for Scouting is increasing.”
