Lockdown survey shows some positives

Friday 01 May 2020

A survey tracking our wellbeing during the lockdown has found some positives as many say they've found this time easier to cope with than others.

The questions are aimed at people in our Bailiwick as well as in Jersey and the Isle of Man.

While anyone can take part the results vary each week with fluctuating participant numbers.

Last week more than 1500 people took part, with nearly 600 of them living in Guernsey.

The survey found a level of optimism about when life will return to 'normal', which coincided with the Bailiwick moving into phase two of its lockdown. Nearly half of those who filled in the survey thought that would happen within six months. A fifth thought it might take a year or more though.

Two thirds of people found the lockdown has been a negative experience so far, but more than half said they had found it easy or very easy to cope with.

Many people have adapted their lifestyles to fit as expected at the outset of the lockdown with hundreds of people saying they've started using video conferencing in their work or to communicate with family and friends, with 83% in total saying they've started using more online services including for shopping and socialising.

Further positive news came with 53% of all who responded to the survey saying they haven't felt lonely or isolated despite the lockdown now stretching into five weeks.

Nearly half of all respondents said they had felt stress though, but only to a small extent.

The survey asks different questions each week with each all of the responses collated by Island Global Research to track the impact of covid-19 on everyone's lives.
