Local petition launched for Gaza ceasefire

Monday 20 November 2023

A petition has been launched calling on Guernsey deputies to publicly support a ceasefire in Gaza.

More than 150 people have now signed a petition launched by Aeva Love, who has also written to the island’s deputies calling for support.

“I invite everyone to join us in demanding that Guernsey deputies call for a ceasefire and let it be known that they do not represent the Guernsey people of good moral conscience with their statement of ‘unequivocal’ support,” she said, referring to an earlier statement from the President of P&R after the Hamas attacks on Israel.

“We condemn the deaths of all civilians and express our solidarity with the people of Gaza following unprecedented death and destruction.”

The ongoing ceasefire debate is proving to be a divisive topic in the UK and now Guernsey, with some arguing that a ceasefire would stop more people dying in Gaza, while others remain adamant that it would simply lead to Hamas attacking Israel again.
