Final touches to all-day Guernsey Together celebration

Saturday 22 August 2020

Organisers and volunteers were yesterday putting the final touches to today's 11-hour "celebration" of the Guernsey Together spirit, with a mini-parade, gin bar and hog roast among the many activities on offer.

The free event is being staged at Saumarez Park from 11:00 and will have live music, a mini ‘Battle of the Flowers’ parade, hog roast, beer tent and fireworks at 22:00. There will also be food trailers and various stalls from over 40 local charities.

JT, who are sponsors for the event, will be hosting a ‘JT Together’ Stage with live music from noon onwards. City Limits will headline the stage at 8pm, after acts like GU10, Element 6 and Buffalo Huddleston.

Paul Allaway, a co-organiser on behalf of the Lions Club of Guernsey, said that the community spirit shown during lockdown was the inspiration for the event. “We all wanted to put on an event to celebrate the positive outcomes of what has been a challenging time,” he said.

“Our thanks go to all the sponsors and volunteers involved, without which we would not be able to host the event, and who have further proved that the community spirit in Guernsey is simply unrivalled.”
