Lieutenant Governor Cadets to reunite

For the first time, current and previous Lieutenant Governor Cadets will reunite in a special celebration at Government House.

It is first time in the scheme’s history that a reunion has been organised and a number of them are expected to attend.

At the last count, around 40 were expected to attend today's event, including some who served when the scheme was first launched in 1988 and some who have travelled from overseas to be there.

The idea of a reunion came up earlier this year, under the tenure of His Excellency Sir Ian Corder. He is the seventh Lieutenant Governor to benefit from the Cadet scheme.

It was first instigated in 1988, when the then Lieutenant-Governor, Lieutenant General Sir Alexander Boswell, came up with the idea. At first, four Cadets were appointed to give "official recognition for their special achievements."

The first Cadets have been followed by numerous in successive years, including those serving with the current Lieutenant-Governor.

"It’s an excellent scheme, which continues to recognise some of the brightest young people in our island," he said.

His Excellency added: "I’m very much looking forward to seeing how many former cadets we can muster in one place, to find out what they are doing now and to share memories of their time in post."

The Chief of Staff to the Lieutenant-Governor, Major Marco Ciotti, had asked for the publics’ assistance in contacting former cadets when the reunion was announced earlier this year: "We believe that there are around 70 eligible individuals out there, some of whom are likely to be living outside of the Bailiwick, so we are hoping that friends and families will help spread the word about the reunion."
