Bookworms can get back to their usual habits, with the Guille-Allès Library starting up a home delivery service.
Books, audiobooks, DVDs and jigsaw puzzles can be borrowed from the service and will be delivered to local doorsteps free of charge.
Priority will be given to those in self isolation and people who are most in need, including those over 70, while others can access a collection service online.
“We know that lockdown has been a difficult time for many people, especially if they’ve run out of things to read or watch,"said Chief Librarian, Laura Milligan. "Supporting mental health and wellbeing in the community has always been one of the library’s main goals, and we hope this new service will provide a boost for those people who are feeling vulnerable and isolated at the moment.”

Since the beginning of lockdown a month ago, the Guille-Allès has seen a rise in usage of its digital collection, a 28% increase in ebook and audiobook downloads and a sharp rise in checkouts of digital magazines and newspapers.
Though the library remains closed to the public, it is continuing many of its events online, including reading groups, quizzes, challenges and even a virtual LEGO club.
Anyone who isn't already a member of the library can join up either online or over the phone, and those who would like to take advantage of the delivery service can fill out a form here or call 720392 and leave a message.
