30th anniversary year of Les Bourgs Hospice celebrated with lottery

Tuesday 02 February 2021

Les Bourgs Hospice, which has been providing end of life care to the people of Guernsey for three decades, is celebrating a landmark anniversary this year.

The hospice was set up by Greville Mitchell OBE and Lisa Mitchell back in 1991.

The property in St Andrew's was chosen to feel like ‘home’ to its residents during their stay.

The charity has been kept afloat for all these years on the support of the public through various fund-raising events and donations.

The now iconic ‘30 bays in 30 days’ has expanded into walks, cycles and runs.

However, this year the organisers wanted to do something a little different to mark the passing of 30 years of care. The Friends of Les Bourgs Hospice are a group of people who help fundraise for the charity, and this year they’ve decided to hold a lottery in addition to other fundraising challenges.

A lottery draw will be taking place on 9 October this year and tickets are now on sale. Due to Guernsey’s current lockdown you can’t buy tickets in person, but you can reserve them.

A ticket costs £25 and there are four chances to win in the draw in October.

First prize is an i10 Hyundai donated by Barras Car Centre; second prize is an E-Bike from Ian Brown’s Cycle shop. You can take part in a 'trolley dash' with the Co-Op for the third prize, or fourth prize is a scenic flight on a private plane.

More details will be available on where you can pick up a ticket in person once lockdown has passed; however, for the time being, you can reserve a ticket by emailing one of the following members of the Friends of Les Bourgs Hospice.
