A new initiative has been launched to offer young children with complex and additional needs a place to exercise and partake in multi-sport activities.
Little Champs is a sporting academy for children under the age of 5, and LC Superstars is a new arm of the business specifically designed for children with additional needs.
“I have friends who have children with additional needs,” said owner of Little Champs, Laurel Le Tocq. "I’ve always tried to be inclusive with my classes, but it can be a challenge. So I thought we need to deliver and provide something.”
Pictured: “Most children can’t access sports clubs until they’re five, so we’re filling that gap,” said Ms Le Tocq.
Ms Le Tocq wants to fill a gap in multi-sport activities for children. The classes will focus on fundamental movement skills and will be replicable at home with a parent or carer.
“There’s not much in Guernsey for children with additional needs, so I just wanted to fill the gap, because every child should have access to sport,” said Ms Le Tocq.
Little Champs Superstars is a not-for-profit initiative, supported by the Health Improvement Commission.
“Helping more people to be more active more often is the goal of our Be Active workstream and it is so important that all children have opportunities to have fun and learn new active skills,” said the Commission's Lead, Alun Williams.
“The initial response to our partnership with Little Champs demonstrates how important this is to our community. We can't wait to see how the LC Superstars get on!”

The Health Improvement Commission has helped fund the pilot sessions, which are going to be run in six-week blocks.
The classes will cost £7 per session, with the funds helping to pay for specialised coaches and a fully accessible venue.
