La Grande Mare revamp fast tracked

Wednesday 13 May 2020

La Grande Mare hotel and restaurant will remain closed after lockdown, while plans to redevelop the resort are fast tracked.

The changes to make the hotel a "world class golf club and resort" were announced early last year, after it was bought by billionaire businessman, Stephen Lansdown.

But we could see those plans come to fruition earlier than expected, in light of the corona virus pandemic and its impact on the local tourism and hospitality industries.

For that reason, La Grande Mare has decided not to open in its usual format once the lockdown restrictions have been lifted.

However, keen golfers will be pleased to know that the resort's popular golf course and club will remain open, in line with Public Health guidance.

"The Health and Leisure Club is currently closed and we will review its future as events unfold," explained Sacha Cauwels-Wigan, who was appointed as Resort General Manager when the new owners took over. "We will ensure that we keep members of both clubs up to date with events.

"We are actively supporting with an outplacement service for the team members who are affected by this decision and all bookings at the hotel will be cancelled. Both staff and clients are being notified and appropriate arrangements are being made.

"This tough decision has not been easy to take but we believe it is in the best interest for the future of LGM."

La Grande Mare is planning on sending in a pre-application to the Deveiopment and Planning Authority this month for comment.
