"Just don't drink and drive"

Wednesday 28 August 2019

Two people were arrested over the bank holiday weekend on suspicion of drink-driving.

Guernsey Police carried out random stop checks over the weekend, with officers setting up at multiple points across the island.

Main roads and smaller, quieter routes were manned - day and night - over the three-day period.

"Drink-driving is illegal, incredibly dangerous and potentially deadly," said Roads Policing Inspector Tom Marshall. "As soon as someone decides to drink and drive, the chances of them and others people injured or killed increase dramatically. That decision can be made anywhere across the island and that's why our officers have deployed with the simple instruction to conduct checks anywhere. Busy roads or quiet lanes - they have stopped on them to check cars and will continue to do so.

"Our message is simple; if you're going to drink, don't drive. Get a taxi. Catch the bus. Designate a driver. Walk.

"Just don't drink and drive."
