It's all cricket!

Guernsey FC and Guernsey Raiders will be pulling on their cricket whites today for a 20-20 fun day to keep their players active and their fans entertained while they wait for the UK to allow competitive matches in their respective leagues again.

The two teams put their thinking caps on as the Covid-19 restrictions were lifted in Guernsey meaning they can now train and play again.

Guernsey FC defender Tom Strawbridge came up with the idea of challenging the Guernsey Raiders to a cricket match. It's now going ahead today, at Port Soif, in aid of Guernsey Mind.

The '2020: 20-20' will feature players from both teams - who'll be displaying their bowling, batting and fielding skills.

There's going to be a barbecue and live music too with the event open to the public from 12:00, with the toss at 12:45 before the game, which is due to start at 13:00.

Guernsey FC Director Nic Legg said they're hoping to see a number of both football and rugby fans there to continue the post lockdown celebrations.

“As Phase 5 now sees no boundaries to activity within our Bailiwick Bubble, we’ll try our best to bring you some enjoyable action. We are pleased the Raiders have joined us in helping to raise money for GFC’s partner charity, Guernsey Mind."

Guernsey Raiders Vice Chairman Andrea Harris admitted the teams aren't used to playing with cricket balls.

“While it’s not the kind of ball either we or our opponents are used to, we’re excited at the prospect of playing sport in front of a crowd again – it’s a big part of what both our teams are all about."

Admission to the '2020: 20-20' will be free but there will be collections throughout the day for Guernsey Mind, including a 50-50 raffle draw.
