The GSPCA is calling out for witnesses after a staff member recovered several dead guinea pigs yesterday evening from a bush at the Halfway.
A member of the public reported the find around 18:00 yesterday, and the animal charity arrived to clear the area, which it said was “very upsetting” for those there and were glad children didn’t see the “traumatic” scene.
Lorna Chadwick, Welfare Manager, said it appeared the deceased animals had been thrown up into the branches surreptitiously and appeared malnourished.
She is leading the call for information: “It's a very busy junction so somebody must have seen something. Given how they were found, it is obvious that someone took the effort to throw the animals up into the branches - it's hard to comprehend why someone would do that.
“The guinea pigs were very underweight and showed signs of long-term neglect, so we are very concerned that there more awaiting the same fate.”
Manager Steve Byrne said it’s unusual for the GSPCA to be called to reports of dead animals, and even more so in public spaces.
"If anyone has any information at all in regards the deceased guinea pigs that were found near the Halfway bus stop please do get in touch with us here at the GSPCA."

Guernsey Police said the incident hasn't been reported to it, but said "anyone with information relating to animal abuse or neglect to report it to police".
