More than 500 children across Guernsey and Alderney have created imaginative and colourful “Aurigny Birthday Cards” as part of the airline’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.
At the start of next week, the top entries from each school will be posted on the Aurigny Facebook page and a public vote will be held to select the final five finalists.
The competition was open to all primary schools including St Anne's in Alderney and an Aurigny spokesman said they have been overwhelmed by the number of entries from the all the schools and the creativity and standard of the artwork.
This event was just one of the many planned for throughout Aurigny's 50th Anniversary year, whose official birthday was on 1 March 2018.
Once the final five finalists have been chosen via Facebook a winner will then be picked by a panel of independent judges and unveiled at a special presentation next month. First prize is a free flight for their class, to be used for an educational trip. There will be further prizes for the other finalists.
Aurigny PR manager Paul Ainsworth said the airline staff had been impressed by the amount of effort and skill that had gone into the designs. He said: “We were blown away by the response from the children. You can see how much hard work they’ve put into these designs and some of the detail they’ve included is fantastic. The top 50 entries will now go to a public vote on our Facebook and this will determine the five finalists."

“Our independent judges will then have the very tough job of picking the winning design. We’d like to thank the hundreds of children who took part – they’ve all done fantastically well and shown great artistic flair. It’s now down to the public to pick their finalists. Good luck to everyone.”
The public voting will begin on Monday 16 April and closes at noon on 30 April. The winner will then be announced at a special presentation in May.
