Huge amount raised for charity

Monday 01 July 2024

111 bike riders have together raised more than £67,000 for Les Bourgs Hospice.

They were all taking part in this year's 30 Rides in 30 Days challenge which saw the staggering total of £67, 295.85 achieved.

Organised by Ian Brown’s Cycle Shop, the annual event has been held 17 times since 2008, and has raised more than £1,100,000 in total during that time.

Organiser, Ian Brown, was delighted with this year’s total.

“I am very grateful, as always, to all the riders for their efforts out on their bicycles and their supporters who donated to the fundraising in various ways. The event demonstrates what value and appreciation the Guernsey community has for Les Bourgs Hospice and the care and support it offers islanders and their families.”

This year, the 111 riders started their daily challenge on Saturday 27 April.

They had to ride their bikes for one hour a day, over 30 consecutive days, ending on Sunday 26 May when they all joined in with the annual Rock to Rocque round island bike ride, which is another fundraising event focused on supporting Les Bourgs Hospice.

Out of this year's team, 34 were taking part for the first time.

Specsavers were the primary supporters of the event for a third year while Woodies Coffee outlets gave a donation from each cup of coffee sold during the thirty days. The Kiln at Oatlands kindly hosted a 'First Day Breakfast' for the riders at the start of their challenge.
