Deputy Tina Bury has been elected Vice President of Health & Social Care in the committee's first formal meeting of the term.
Deputy Al Brouard, President of the Committee, believes the newcomer will bring “a huge amount of skill, empathy and determination” to the role.
“We had a really positive first meeting and we’re all looking forward to building upon the work of our predecessors, while developing our own priorities for health and care in the Bailiwick,” he said.
“The committee will bring a fresh perspective to this incredibly important area of work, and Tina epitomises that new approach.”
Deputy Bury has volunteered for a number of community projects, including the Meals on Wheels programme and night shift work for the Guernsey Women’s Refuge.
In her manifesto, she said she wanted more deputies to represent ‘hard-working families who just about get by, but worry about the impact an unplanned bill can have on our quality of life.’

Deputy Bury has also accepted a role in Employment & Social Security, and hopes having a seat on both committees will strengthen their ability to work towards shared goals.
“I’m delighted to have been elected as Vice President of the Committee for Health and Social Care,” she said. “As soon as I was elected, I had my eye on seats on both HSC and ESS.
“There is significant cross-committee working between them in areas of policy, with plenty of room for further development. I’m really looking forward to having responsibility for ensuring this coordination.”
Some other committees have also picked out their second-in-commands. Deputy Steve Falla will be Deputy Neil Inder’s Vice President for Economic Development, while Environment & Infrastructure President Deputy Lindsay De Sausmarez has been selected as the Vice President of ESS.
Other committees will select their Vice Presidents in their first formal meetings.
