Reward offered after Hot Haus damaged

Monday 09 December 2024

As Storm Darragh battered the Bailiwick, there was an attempted break in at the sauna at La Vallette.

Crimestoppers has offered a reward for any information which may lead to the arrest of those responsible.

The sauna - which is available for public use through an online booking system - was closed all day Saturday as a result of the forecast weather.

On Sunday, the owners announced that it would remain closed due to "this unfortunate incident".

They said Guernsey Police had been alerted and that CCTV was being "worked through".

A spokesperson for Crimestoppers later said the charity was offering a reward of "up to £125 for anyone who supplies information leading to an arrest in an ongoing investigation" regarding the damage caused to the doors at the Hot Haus at La Vallette.

The damage is understood to have been caused sometime "between 17:30 on Saturday 7 December and 06:45 on Sunday 8".

"It is suspected someone one was trying to force the lock with a tool, and in doing so damaged (the door) beyond repair. CCTV enquiries are already taking place," said the spokesperson.

"To qualify for the reward, callers must supply their information through Crimestoppers’ anonymous service, by calling 0800 555 111, or using their reporting portal at crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/forms/pre-form.

"Police are also looking for any potential dash cam footage, or any other information, and can be contacted directly on 01481 222 222."

The Hot Haus sauna at La Vallette opened as a private enterprise earlier this year.

It is owned and managed by Kirstie and Rob Allen who are both keen sea swimmers.

Hot Haus is classed as a 'temporary' sauna as it is a mobile structure on a trailer that can be moved, but it has planning permission on a 'permanent basis' to remain at La Vallette.
