Guernsey Police have charged a 30-year-old man with burglary, after an alleged incident yesterday in the area around St Jacques.
He was initially held in custody earlier today on suspicion of burglary after a resident who lives in the area around Upper St Jacques, St Peter Port returned home yesterday afternoon to find someone had allegedly broken in. They then found the man there.
The man initially ran off, but the owner gave chase, called the police, and an arrest was made shortly after.
At first, a spokesperson for Guernsey Police said: "We want to speak to anyone in the area of Rozel Road, Gibauderie, St Jacques and Upper St Jacques, who between 15:00 and 16:00 yesterday noticed anybody acting suspiciously. Particularly we want to know if anyone knocked on their door between these times, or if you have home CCTV.
"Any bits of information, however minor they may seem to you could be the key bit of information for us. Please don’t hesitate if you know something – call Guernsey Police on 725111, and ask to be put through to CID."
Since the decision was made to charge the 30-year-old, Guernsey Police have said:
"Thank you to the members of the public who have so far contacted us, we have received some valuable information. If anyone else knows anything, we still want to hear from you - call 725111 and ask to speak to CID."
Police also wanted to stress that while burglaries are rare in Guernsey, people should lock their houses when they were out. It is all about not allowing an easy opportunity for access to your property.
