Hel(l) yeah! Islanders encouraged to take on mini triathlon

Local charities are urging people to give the 2021 Hel(l)vetia Challenge a 'Tri', with the aim of raising much-needed funds for your charity of choice.

The mini triathlon - which involves swimming, cycling and running on your own or in teams of three - takes place on Friday 17 September around Havelet Bay.

The circuit begins with a 600-metre swim in Havelet Bay, followed by a 1-kilometre cycle up and down the Val des Terres, concluding with a 2-kilometre run along South Esplanade and back to Castle Cornet and returning to South Esplanade as many times as your team decides.

"I’d really like to emphasise that the event is open to everyone, and complete novices are very welcome," said Glen Tonks, CEO of Credit Suisse Guernsey, which organises and supports the challenge.

"The ethos of the event is teamwork and fun whilst raising money for charities in Guernsey."

Peter Rose, Chairman of the Association of Guernsey Charities, said fundraising is needed now more than ever.

"The island’s third sector has had another very difficult 12 months and events such as these provide a real lifeline for some in terms of fundraising. The Hel(l)vetia Challenge is unique as participants can choose the charity they support, which means the impact of the event benefits many."

Credit Suisse participants will fundraise for GROW Limited and Marguerite Talmage, Director GROW said: ‘We’re focusing on raising £2.5m to redevelop our vinery site which is a major challenge so support from Credit Suisse with their Hel(l)vetia Challenge is very much appreciated."

The event will take place between 12:00 and 17:00 on Friday 17 September and you can contact challenge.helvetia@credit-suisse.com to find out more and enter.
