The half term holidays give those lucky enough to have some time off a chance to get creative with the chance of making Island Games history.
With the 2021 Guernsey Games just over two years away, the organisers are already busy making sure everything will be in place before the visiting athletes and dignitaries book their boats and flights.
One of the key parts of any Natwest International Island Games is the medals which are handed out to all individuals and teams in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
For the 2021 Games, the Guernsey Island Games Association have been running a competition to design the medals, and there are just a few days left to get any entries in.
Launching the competition earlier this year, GIGA said:
"Athletes from 24 different Islands will be coming to the Island to participate in 14 sports. Although the NatWest International Island Games are known as the friendly games, the medals are still vitally important to those participants who win one and will be a lifelong reminder of their achievement.
"As well as the honour of seeing their design used for all of the medals during the Games, the overall winner will also receive their own commemorative set of medals and will be given the opportunity to present the winners’ medals at one of the events during the week. All of the shortlisted finalists will receive VIP tickets to the opening ceremony of the Games."

While there are certain criteria for the competition, there is also lots of room for flexibility in the ideas which can be submitted.
The medals must represent gold, silver and bronze positions, but GIGA wants to see entries involving any creative ways to represent that, while saying the medals don't necessarily have to be made from metal, and do not have to be circular.
