Vauvert Primary School, Elizabeth College and the Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre will all be representing Guernsey's schools at the inter-island finals of this year's De Putron Challenge.
Teams from those schools won the Year 6, Year 8 and Post 16 challenges in Guernsey yesterday, and will now face the winners of the Jersey heats, which are being held next week, before the inter-island final is held later this month.
Hosted by Express Editor, Laura Clayton, the Guernsey heats were staged at St James, with the Year 6 and Year 8 supporters particularly vocal as their teams took to the stage.

The first Guernsey heats saw the island's Year 6 teams compete, with Vauvert Primary School emerging victorious, taking the trophy with a nail-biting 1 point lead and score of 15 over the impressive runner-up’s Blanchelande College.
The other schools that made it to the final were Melrose, who finished with 13 points, and Castel Primary School, who finished with 9 points.

The Year 8 event included a new technology round which tested the teams' coding skills using the software 'Trinket' as they worked together to replicate a recycling logo. They were judged on art style, colour, similarity to the provided shape and optimisation of coding. St Sampson’s shape was coded the closest to the logo which meant they took an early lead in the competition.
After closely contested rounds in the first heat, Ladies College and Elizabeth College came out on top of a six-team heat with both teams scoring 20 points. In the final it remained very close but Elizabeth College won with a four point lead.

The Ladies’ College and The Guernsey Grammar School and Sixth Form College were up against title holders, Elizabeth College, at the Post 16 event. Each team also competed in the coding round with Elizabeth College’s robot being coded almost identically to the provided shape.
After seven hard fought rounds The Guernsey Grammar School came out on top to claim the win with 25 points.

Every student that took part throughout the day received a book voucher and the teams that made it to the final won money for their school.
Vauvert Primary, Elizabeth College and The Guernsey Grammar School will now be going on to compete against the successful Jersey teams at the inter-island final which will be held in Jersey at the Grand Hotel on 21 November, again hosted by Express Editor Laura Clayton.
Hayley de Putron, a trustee of the Ana Leaf Foundation and founder of the De Putron Challenge, was thrilled with the number of school teams who took part this year and hopes the competitors learnt something new.
The inter-island final will be live streamed for those unable to attend on Thursday 21 November. It can be watched live here.
