Guernsey's oldest resident dies

Tuesday 16 April 2019

Ruth Berry has passed away, aged 109, with her family saying she died peacefully.

Mrs Berry had been living at Summerfield Nursing Home in recent years, which is where she died on Saturday 13 April.

She was the Channel Islands' oldest resident at the time of her death, having lived longer than another Guernseywoman, Clara Jehan, who was just weeks younger than Mrs Berry. Mrs Jehan passed away late last year.

Mrs Berry was the "loved wife of the late Kenneth Berry BEM" and she was the "dearest mother" and mother-in-law of Ken, Paul, Roger and Marilyn and their partners. She was also a grandmother and great grandmother and well respected by many who knew her across the island.

Funeral details will be published by the family in the coming days.
