Guernsey will be taking its place as part of the Atlantic Wall today; Wednesday 6 June, in celebration of European Bunker Day.
The Atlantic Wall is the 6,200km long defensive line of German bunkers in the Second World War that spanned the Atlantic Sea board, from Finland to France.
Organisations in all of those countries, similar to Festung Guernsey, are hosting special events and opening up their bunkers for the public too see.
This year will mark the first European Bunker Day - it is designed to be an open door day at all of the Atlantic Wall sites, and is part of the European project proposal "Atlantikwall Europe, AWE" promoting the heritage and the relevance today of the fortifications.
On island, Guernsey Museums and Festung Guernsey will be marking the day by opening up Fort Hommet, including the Shell Shrine, M19 bunker and Personel bunkers from 14:00.
Castle Cornet will also be open as usual, but a special Hafenschloss - harbour castle - tour will be taking place at 14:00 there as well, with normal admission prices applying.
The Naval Signals HQ will also be open from 12:30.
The openings at the Fort Hommet headland will run until 17:00, and there will be a number of displays inside the bunkers.
