Good Friday for Guernsey Museum

Guernsey Museum is today opening to the public for the first time this year, beginning with its Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition.

The museum in Candie Gardens has received permission from the Natural History Museum to extend the exhibition until the 16 May. Due to lockdown restrictions and exhibition preparations the museum has been closed since the beginning of the year.

The photography exhibition is a prestigious platform for international photographers to display images from across the world.

“This competition has an outstanding reputation in attracting the world’s very best photographers,” said Dr Tim Littlewood, Executive Director of Science at the Natural History Museum. 

Dr Littlewood is a member of the judging panel and oversaw the competition; the exhibition of photographs has been loaned to Guernsey Museum to display.

“We hope that this year’s exhibition will provide an opportunity for audiences to pause, reflect and ignite a passion of advocating for the natural world,” he said.

Meanwhile, during its closure, the Discovery Room was transformed and will now focus on Vikings. There are hand painted murals, props and a replica Viking Ship for people to come and see.

This year also marks 10 years since the Timewarp role play area was created. With the Viking theme in full swing visitors will be able to play draughts and check out a ‘treasure chest’ full of Viking objects.

Later in the year Guernsey Arts will be using the Rona Cole Gallery for an exhibition.

Discovery Passes from 2020 have been extended to include 2021.
