A local woman is looking for help to capture what the ‘real’ Guernsey is like to use in the promotion of the film in Japan.
The film, which was released in the UK in April 2018, is based on the best-selling novel of the same name, starring Lily James and directed by Mike Newell.
When it was released in the UK, the film reached third place in the box office charts. The Telegraph described the production as ‘a confection in every sense, but plump with natural sweetness’.
A Guernsey premiere saw the film’s stars come over to the island where they watched the film at Beau Sejour along with hundreds of locals.
The film was also released in countries such as Taiwan, Singapore and Israel in 2018.
Naoko Mauger, a local woman from Japan (pictured below), said that the island is little-known to viewers in Japan and so Kino, the film supplier, will be focusing on giving Japanese viewers an idea of what it is like to live in Guernsey before the film’s release.
"There are few materials about Guernsey, but I offered them help and they were absolutely delighted," said Naoko.
Kino is interested in presenting what the ‘real’ Guernsey is like in an effort to show Japan the history of The Occupation and to show the beauty of the island a wider international audience.
Naoko went on to say that she is excited to ‘introduce more about Guernsey on this "special opportunity".
Pictures of local food and shops are at the core of the film’s promotion currently, but those working on promoting it further are still keen to introduce more of Guernsey’s picturesque views and unique culture to attract more viewers.
The film is due to be released in Japan on 30 August this year.
