"Sky's the limit" after funding boost

Friday 13 November 2020

The Clean Earth Trust has now hired its first two paid staff with help from the Guernsey Community Foundation after two years of depending on volunteers.

The Trust was set up in 2018 and has aimed to limit our negative impact on the environment with campaigns such as Pick It Up Guernsey and the Repair Café.

Founder and Chairman Andrew Munro said the support from volunteers Fran Browning and Laura Bampton has kept the show on the road; however, with more funding the sky's the limit.

“Funding has come at just the right time," he said. "Having a team of people in place, solely committed to delivering our campaigns, will be a game changer for the charity’s future and I’m excited at the possibilities that lie ahead!”

A grant has now been awarded to the Trust which allows for the hiring of 'Eco-Heros' Helen Quin and Camilla Smilie.

“It’s fulfilling to be able to live my personal values through my job,” Ms Quin. “I’m really grateful to have found such a dynamic and unique role here in Guernsey, and to be working alongside a team of passionate and like-minded people."

That includes Emily Gabb, who has joined as a professional seamstress. Her position has been funded by Condor Ferries and will see her supporting The Repair Café with upcycling.
