Guernsey Arts: What's on

Friday 10 January 2025

Welcome to this week's Art Fix with Guernsey Arts!

This is where we dive into the world of art through our cultural calendar:

St Peter Port Sketch Club - George Crossan Gallery

In 2024 the St Peter Port Sketch Club visited over twenty locations around the town to draw the buildings, streets and squares of St. Peter Port. This year they had a
record number of participants of all ages from seven to seventy years old!

This exhibition, taking place at the George Crossan Gallery from 15 January until 1 March, features hundreds of drawings and paintings using a huge variety of different styles and techniques.

Often drawn quite rapidly, the sketch is a spontaneous response to the location and a captivating record of St Peter Port.

All are welcome to attend, and admission is free! The George Crossan Gallery is located in the Inner Market, and is accessible via lift or the stairs by the Co-op Entrance.

We hope to see you all there!

Japanese Calligraphy Workshop Evening

Experience the beauty of the ancient art of Japanese calligraphy and produce your own hand drawn works using traditional methods, next Wednesday 15 January from 6pm!

Japanese calligraphy, known as ‘Shodo’, is one of the oldest surviving traditional Japanese artforms. Emerging in Japan in the 4th Century, the art of writing Kanji (Chinese characters) creates beauty through the careful use of space and character formation.

While focusing on the formation of the individual brush strokes in each Kanji, Shodo teaches deep concentration and mindfulness. By practicing Shodo students can achieve improved focus and mental health, while also learning the history and meaning behind each Kanji.

This workshop will be taking place at the Iris and Dora studio - for more information and to secure your tickets, head to the link HERE!
