Guernsey Photography Festival 2024

This year’s long-awaited festival, opening this Friday the 4th of October, features a major exhibition documenting 30 years of social change in the UK with a focus on emerging British talent.

Fourteen years on from its inception, the Guernsey Photography Festival aims to engage and inspire islanders and visitors of all ages, through its range of passionately curated exhibitions, educational activities and cultural events.

2024’s programme is as exciting as ever… Within Candie Museum, you can catch ‘Fables of Faubus’, an exhibition by one of the most respected and influential British documentary photographers, Paul Reas; on display in the Brian White Gallery from Friday 4th October to Tuesday 31st December.

Concurrently, ‘Team Building’ by Jessica Bernard will be taking place in the Greenhouse Gallery from the 4th of October until the 3rd of November.

‘The Dog’s in the Car’, an exhibition by Tami Aftab, will be adorning the walls of the Gatehouse Gallery from Friday 4th October to Saturday 26th October, and local photographers Estelle Moseley and Tasmin Ferguson will be showcasing their eye catching works in the George Crossan Gallery from Friday 4th October to Sunday 3rd November.

GTFL Tree & Woodcraft Fair at Government House

Make your way down to Government House between 10am and 3pm this Saturday the 5th of October, to enjoy this year's Tree & Woodcraft Fayre!

The Fayre will be a celebration of trees, woodland & forests and how they support and benefit people & environment.

The event will include arts & crafts as well as a tree climbing competition for professional tree climbers & contractors. There will also be tree trails and activities for people of all ages. tent peg makers, art workshops, a climbing tower plus our very own wood chip pile to play on!

Guernsey Arts will be hosting the ‘Branching Out’ stage, in collaboration with Night Voices and Wild Wolf Wellbeing - come down to catch some of the fabulous entertainment our local creatives have to offer.

Georgian Culture Week

Taking place between Friday the 4th and Monday the 7th of October, this unique event will showcase the rich traditions and artistic achievements of Georgia; featuring acclaimed singer Nino Basharuli master jewellers Sofia Etsadashvili, Maia Magalashvili, Tamara Japaridze, and Elena Palavandishvili-Ostr, and the distinguished artist Kakha Khinveli.

The schedule begins on 4th October with an evening masterclass at Les Cotils to showcase the ancient art of enamel jewellery making.

On 5th October, Les Cotils will host a Georgian art and jewellery exhibition featuring the work of celebrated Georgian artist Kakha Khinvelli, open from 11am to 5pm.

The final event is an evening of Georgian music and cuisine, to be held at Les Cotils on the 6th of October, which features the music of Nina Bashruli, complemented with traditional Georgian dishes, and with Georgian wine available. Tickets are available at £55 each.

Mirror Ball Night: Out of this World 80s Party

It's that time again… this Saturday the 5th of October, St James will be opening their doors (and their dancefloor) to another fabulous Mirror Ball night!

Fanny Davies International Piano Series: Rodolfo Faistauer

Looking for that perfect event to add a bit of sparkle to your week? You’ve come to the right place.

Next Wednesday the 9th of October from 7pm, Brazilian pianist, Rodolfo Faistauer, performs expressive works by C.P.E Bach and Beethoven’s exquisite sonata, Op. 110.

After the interval, enjoy some ‘Brazilian Soul’ by Villa-Lobos and Gnattali before Schubert’s celebrated sonata in A, D. 959.

Don’t miss your chance to drop in at the free workshop taking place from 4pm, and chat with Rodolfo at the bar after the concert!
