Tuesday the 23rd of April marks the beginning of the ever popular Guernsey Literary Festival, returning for 2024!
The festival not only celebrates great literature against the beautiful backdrop of Guernsey, but you can expect events featuring some of the world’s greatest writers, speakers, and thinkers.
Curated with varied interests and ages in mind, the festival is a unique opportunity to come together to celebrate the written word with no barriers.
Kicking off the event with a sold out show will be Simon Hamon with the intriguing story ‘Life Lives Beyond the Grave’. His talk is closely followed by that of bestselling author, Jenny O’Brien.
Taking place from 10:00 at the St Saviours Community Centre on Wednesday 24 April, Jenny will discuss her latest captivating thriller ‘Roses for the Dead’, which follows Detective Alana Mack as she investigates the mysteries of Dublin’s Dart train line.

From 19:00, The Princess Royal Centre for Performing Arts will play host to a screening of ‘Nye’, a play broadcast live from the National Theatre.
The story follows Nye Bevan, played by Michael Sheen, in a surreal and spectacular journey through the life and legacy of the man who transformed Britain’s welfare state and created the NHS.

It’s never too late to learn a new skill or pick up a new hobby; why not dive into your creativity this upcoming Wednesday with a traditional Japanese calligraphy workshop?!
From 18:00 on 24 April, Gyokubai Studio welcomes you to experience the beauty of the ancient art of Japanese calligraphy. Taking place at the Iris and Dora studio, you’ll learn the origins of Kanji (the ideograms used to write the Japanese language) and how they are used in Japanese writing.
You’ll be taught about the essential traditional tools of Shodo, and even get to produce your own hand drawn works using traditional methods.
