The Guernsey Arts Commission has announced the return of two events celebrating local creative talent early next month.

‘Art on the Beach’ will return to Vazon Bay on August 2 with a sandcastle competition and kite flying. The week after on August 9 they will host an Arts Sunday on the Town Seafront to celebrate its 10-year anniversary with local arts and crafts. The theme of ‘Guernsey Together’ will run through both events.

Art on the Beach will be a free event starting from 10:00, and the sandcastle competition is open to any person or team who wishes to take part. Participants are encouraged to use their sculptures to demonstrate what ‘Guernsey Together’ means to them.

Arts Sunday will allow local artists, performers and creators to showcase their talents in a free and accessible environment from 10:00 to 17:00. Attractions will include an arts market for local artisans to sell their creations and a variety of stages to showcase performance arts.

The GAC will host their regular Music and Performance & Dance stages, which will include regular performances from Wheel Chairography, Les Danceurs de L’Assemblaie, and an extract from an upcoming performance of William Shakespeare’s The Tempest. The ‘Arts Sunday Sing and Sign Along’ will also return following its popularity last year.

The BBC Introducing Stage will also return to showcase local acts, and the Vale Earth Fair will host their usually ‘DIY Disc-oh’ with a range of DJs throughout the day.

There will also be a new Upload stage, the first physical form of the Upload Festival, which organised a day of online performances from local musicians during lockdown.
