Hotelier rises to the challenge and donates £100k to GROW

Wednesday 13 July 2022

The Little Big Hotel Group has donated £100,000 towards GROW’s fundraising efforts in response to a challenge issued by the charity’s patrons.

With £500,000 needed to complete the ambitious £3m. redevelopment, Guy and Julia Hands pledged to donate £125,000, if the remaining £375,000 could be raised by the end of August.

Hotelier and Group Chariman, Ian Walker, took the Hands’ up on the challenge with a substantial donation.

“‘What GROW is doing to help people who can’t help themselves is invaluable. When I visited them I  saw for myself just how much the Crew gain from working together and learning skills which give them confidence, and will increasingly lead to employment in commercial sectors,” he said.

“If they did not have these opportunities they would spend their lives at home or in care.”

With just seven weeks left to raise the remaining £275,000, Mr Walker appealed to the community to “join [him] in supporting this excellent cause”.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to support a project which will benefit an important sector of our community for many decades to come.”

Mrs Hands added: “We would like to thank Ian for recognising the immense benefit GROW has for so many people. His donation is extremely generous and much appreciated.”

When the project is completed, in the Spring of next year, GROW will be better equipped to provide enhanced opportunities in a range of occupational sectors, alongside personal and life skills, for double the current number of 40 people with learning disabilities.

GROW Chairman, Mark Dunster, commented: “We are getting so close to completing our fundraising campaign and our dreams are turning to reality, so I echo Mr Walker’s clarion call to others to help meet the challenge.”
