Damage caused throughout St Sampson's

Tuesday 08 May 2018

A spate of criminal damage and vandalism occurred over the Bank Holiday weekend as a "large group of people" were spotted walking from Rousse to the Saltpans leaving numerous accounts of property destroyed in their wake.

Guernsey Police are investigating the incident which occurred during the early hours of Saturday 5 May, that has left more than a dozen peoples' car wing mirrors hanging off, greenhouses smashed and lamps uprooted from their gardens. One car also had its windscreen smashed.

PC 100 Sam Simon is one of the officers leading the investigation. He said they had had reports of damage all around the area during Saturday morning, and at this time, they believed it all to be linked.

"There was a whole string of damage from Rousse through to Route Carre, through Baubigny and to the Saltpans," he said.

"We have had reports of a large group moving in that direction, and believe that it may all be linked together. Damage wise it was mostly car wing mirrors, but there was also cases of glass in glasshouses being smashed and one property had had lamps ripped up from their garden."

PC Simon said enquiries were still ongoing, and asked anyone with information to come forward, but he added that the progress made so far had been "promising".

Guernsey Police are urging anybody in the area to check their vehicles for any fresh damage and if anybody has any private CCTV that they would be willing to check or have an Officer check that would also be appreciated.

Anyone with any new information should contact PC 100 Simon on 725111 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
