A yachtsman is being treated at Alderney's Mignot Memorial Hospital after the Commodore Goodwill rescued him from a capsized dinghy.
A man was spotted, stranded in the water, a few miles off the coast of Alderney by Condor's freight-only vessel as it was travelling to Portsmouth yesterday.
The vessel launched its tender and performed a dramatic water rescue, bringing the man onto the boat.
A spokeswoman for the Alderney RNLI Lifeboat said: "The all weather Lifeboat, Roy Barker I, was launched at 12:15, on request from the Alderney Coastguard, to assist with the transfer of a person who had been rescued by the tender of the Commodore Goodwill.
"Crew on board the Commodore Goodwill had spotted a dinghy in the Alderney Race and subsequently launched their tender to rescue the individual and transfer him to the ship.
"The Alderney Lifeboat arrived on scene at 12:33 and the yachtsman, who had been separated from his yacht, was transferred to the Lifeboat, which returned to Braye Harbour at 13:09."
They were met at the scene by paramedics who took the man to Mignot Memorial Hospital for medical assistance.
