Gas prices in Guernsey and Jersey will rise by 1.9% on the 1 June - the first rise of its kind in around four years.
The increase has been announced because of a 22% wholesale price rise of LPG [Liquified Petroleum Gas] in the last 12 months. It will see an average of £17 a year added to people's bills.
Guernsey Gas' Managing Director Ian Plenderleith has said the rise was because of this increase.
"We have worked diligently to keep our tariffs stable and competitive over the last three and a half years, this being the fourth consecutive winter without a price increase for our customers," he said.
"Providing affordable, reliable and sustainable energy to our customers across the island is our core objective, along with delivering market leading customer service."
The increase itself is actually less than the March 2018 inflation figure of 2% and the 5.4% increase in inflation since the last change in price in September 2014, so, on average, customer's annual bills will still be lower than in 2014.
"As an organisation we are committed to investing in smarter ‘on island’ energy solutions for our customers that are ‘green’ in both the short and long term, which will benefit our customers through lower bills and the wider environment of Guernsey," Mr Plenderleith added.
"We are looking forward to working with governments of both islands and our partners to further develop competition and choice across the energy sector in the Channel Islands."
