An app which aims to help shoppers save money on their groceries by clearing reduced products has been rolled out across another 20 food stores in the Channel Islands.
The app is now working with Iceland and Checkers Xpress in Guernsey and Jersey, as well as Le Cocq's Stores in Alderney.
The app is already in use at the islands' Morrisons Daily stores, where it was first introduced in July.
“We are delighted that the initial roll-out was very popular with islanders so it was natural to extend the offering and partner with Iceland, Checkers Xpress and Le Cocq’s Stores in Alderney," said Co-founder of Gander, Ashley Osborne. "This means we can provide shoppers and retailers with the ability to take a more mindful and sustainable approach to food shopping.”
The app aims to help food shops sell off more of their 'reduced to clear' items, so shoppers can benefit from lower retail prices while stopping food from going to waste.

“We are conscious that food waste is one of today’s growing issues and a proportion of this is completely avoidable," continued Mr Osborne. "For retailers, food waste can be a real issue if products are not sold before they reach their sell by date. The Gander app solves the problem by attracting local shoppers who love a bargain which in turn helps retailers to significantly reduce their food waste.”
Since its introduction in the Channel Islands over the summer, Gander has been downloaded onto 7,000 local smartphones.
Sandpiper CI's Retail Managing Director, Mike Rutter, added: "We know many islanders are keen to help tackle environmental problems from avoidable food waste so the Gander app is a great addition for us.”
The app is now operational in 39 stores across the Channel Islands.
