There could be more deputies serving the island after the next election - with each one paid less than the current cohort.
The States of Deliberation is currently made up of 38 Deputies serving Guernsey, with two representatives for the States of Alderney.
Deputy Mark Helyar is already trying to convince his colleagues that the number should be cut by ten, but he'll face a challenge when that's debated next week.
As the lead signatory on a requete, Deputy Helyar is suggesting Guernsey's government would work better with just 28 deputies involved.
Deputy John Gollop and Aidan Matthews disagree though.
They've lodged an amendment suggesting the States is instead increased in size by 7 members, but with each taking a smaller salary meaning it won't cost tax payers any more money than it currently does.
"The intention of this amendment is to return the States to the number of Deputies elected between 2000 and 2016 at no affordable cost, the total amount of money paid to each member being proportionally reduced from £43, 036 to £36,341.51 approximately if approved," they said.

There were 45 deputies in the States of Deliberation along with the two Alderney representatives, until the 2016 district elections when the number was cut to 38.
Prior to 2000, a system including Conseillers and parish representatives meant the States of Deliberation had more members, with the actual number varying over the years as the machinery of government was tweaked. They were not paid however, until after the 2014 election when an 'allowance' of £20,000 was set.
Under Deputy Helyar's plans, cutting the States by ten deputies would save the island around £470,000 per year because they are each paid around £47,000 each as a basic salary.
Under Deputy Gollop and Deputy Matthew's amendment, increasing the size of the States by seven members would not cost the island any more - or save any money - because they suggest reducing each member's pay to spread the total cost of their salaries that bit further.
Under the current system the total salary cost of States members in Guernsey is just under £2million.
