The Body Shop is yet to formalise a national restructuring plan after calling in administrators, but store closures and job losses are on the cards.
Its future in the Channel Islands is therefore unclear. There are two premises: one in the Guernsey’s Commercial Arcade, and one on Jersey’s King Street.
Aurelius, a private equity firm which bought the business for £207m in November, decided that it had insufficient working capital after disappointing Christmas sales.
There are hopes that insolvency practitioners may be able to negotiate lower rates in order to bring down day-to-day costs and save some stores.
Shops will stay open while FRP advisory attempts to stabilise the business.
The Body Shop was founded by Anita Roddick in 1976 and pioneered environmentally friendly and ethical practices in the beauty industry.
It now has more than 3,000 stores in more than 65 countries.
Express has reached out to the Body Shop for comment on the island's branches.
