Fundraising walk returns this weekend

Thursday 30 May 2019

The fundraising efforts initially launched by a popular Guernseyman will be continuing this weekend, with the second annual Fairies to Fishes walk.

Trevor Mahy first walked the route, from the Fairy Ring at Pleinmont, along the island's west, north and east coasts to the bathing pools last year, to raise money for the Guernsey society for Cancer Relief.

Mr Mahy had been supported by the charity during his own illness, and he had planned to take part in the event again this year but he has since sadly passed away.

However, his family, friends and other members of the community will be donning their walking shoes to complete the challenge on Saturday.

The organisers Facebook page said they are "hoping to smash last years total and are also hoping to get even more people involved to walk this event with them."

Led by Mr Mahy's daughter Marcia and daughter-in-law Lyndsey, the walk will start at 08:30 at the Fairy Ring, before moving on along the west coast. Walkers can join at the Imperial or at a number of stops along the way, which will be at:

  • 10:30 at Vistas
  • 12:30 at Rousse
  • 13:30 at Chouet
  • 14:30 at Bordeaux

For more information email marciabale34outlook.com or lyndsey@tribehair.ggCollectively they are fundraising through giving.gg.
