Thousands raised to support healthcare staff

Guernsey residents have raised thousands of pounds to support the island's hospital and community care staff.

Luke Le Prevost has raised more than £4,000 to help fund any extra products or equipment HSC workers may need, as the corona virus crisis continues.

After setting up the Crowdfunding page last week, Mr Le Prevost has been uploading Facebook live videos each evening to encourage people to donate. 

"What inspired me to do this is simply the healthcare workers, and when I say healthcare workers I mean every single person that is helping tackle covid-19 on island," he explained. "That includes ambulance staff, care home workers, nurses in the PEH, ICU nurses and community based people too that are helping - sorry if I missed anybody! When I do donate the money, I want it to be spread across as many people helping as I possibly can.

"I have heard they are struggling with some things and are 'low stock' on certain essentials. But, they can use the money for whatever they need to help with the corona virus outbreak. They are working on the frontline and putting themselves at risk for the island's safety and that's just incredible! I don't think many people realise what they are actually doing to help and what they are going through. The risk they are all going through to help all of us."

Mr Le Prevost has carried out many challenges in aid of the cause, including shaving his eyebrows off, waxing his chest and talking through his most embarrassing moments, live on social media.

"The generosity is incredible," he added.
