The mysterious but generous Guernsey and Alderney Freemasons have donated over £50,000 to local charities as part of their annual appeal.
Cheques totalling £55,000 were given to five local organisations towards the end of 2024, namely Autism Guernsey, Guernsey Army Cadet Force, Help a Guernsey Child, Male Uprising Guernsey and Wigwam Support Group.
Charity representatives met Keith Read, Head of Freemasonry in Guernsey, at a presentation at the Masonic Centre last month.
The majority of the funds were donated by individual Freemasons locally with an additional £7,500 raised by The Masonic Charitable Foundation under their “matched funding” scheme.
The £55,000, each charity being given £11,000, will go towards supporting various members of the community including those living with autism, children with special needs, army cadets, and those suffering male cancers.
Mr Read said that he was "delighted" that the Freemasons were able to support the five causes which he described as "very worthy".
In addition to the annual appeal, local Freemasons support a number of other charities in the Bailiwick each year with substantial donations.
